Department

The NPHS Theatre Arts Department annually showcases the talents of over 200 students, both on the stage and backstage. Through the creativity of our students, we are able to transform our audiences to other worlds, create characters from the pages of literature, and find truth and art in imaginary circumstances and in themselves.

Each year we present two Main Stage Shows (one Musical and one Full Length Play), a Student One Acts Festival, a Mystery Dinner Theatre, and two 18 Hour Theatre Festivals. The variety and talent level keep the audiences coming back for more.

Each production, fundraising opportunity and collaboration with community and professional theatres within the local theatrical community, are carefully picked in order for students to experience the complete repertoire that the incredible world of theatre has to offer and to encourage our students to strive for a more professional experience.

Director

Marilyn Strange has been the Theatre Arts Director at Newbury Park High School since 2013, with her inaugural production being “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”, in the Spring of 2013. Before her teaching position, Mrs. Strange fell in love with theatre as a high school student and hasn’t stopped creating since.

She has had the pleasure of working in theatre mostly, performing drama, comedy, musicals, fairy tales in the park, dinner theatre, and Shakespeare, both locally and in Los Angeles. She has also enjoyed working in film, on multiple web series, and completed some voiceover work, but has found true passion in directing. Some of her most notable roles have been Annie Sullivan in “The Miracle Worker”, Goneril in “King Lear”, and Miss Fern in “The Bad Seed”.

NPHS Theatre Boosters

Hello and thank you for finding your way to the booster page! My name is Amy, and I’m very new to the booster world. Before my 10th grader was at NPHS, I thought boosters was a made up name for tv shows. (Friday Night Lights anyone?) Since my introduction to Boosterland was during the pandemic, I didn’t get an actual understanding of everything the boosters do for theatre. (spoiler alert…it’s a lot!) We handle all ticket sales, promotions, programs, t-shirt orders, tech week food, and show volunteer coordination. We gather auction items and raise funds to keep this amazing program up and running. Yes, it’s a lot, but when you watch the kids interact with each other, see our amazing director in action and witness the magic on stage, it is 100% worth it. Theatre kids are the best! I’m so happy to be able to help them, and am also very happy to accept any help as well! 😘 The first step is joining our monthly meetings. Email nphstheatreboosters@gmail.com for details! (“r” before “e” in theatre…the correct way as the kids say)
